I know I’m a little late to the party on helping to publicize this in my little corner of the web-verse, but I had to post something! It’s fantastical. Well, for something like me that is… someone who dreams of drawing every day. Actually I’d be glad to draw once a week right now. It’s hard when you have to do other things like eat and do things to make the money to buy things to eat.

ANYWAY, go check out Strip Search. I have been trolling the artist’s website and thus far, my favorite is Abby. But I’m still working my way through the episiodes. I’ll let you know when it’s all over who my favorite favorite is when it’s all over. Thus far, it seems like the contestants all admit that they got so much more out of it than just the prizes. That makes me happy. I think anytime you get passionate artists together, good things will happen. I hope that each of them keeps moving forward with that same twinkle in their eye as the first day of the search.

So what is Strip Search?! It’s a reality tv style web show put together by the Penny Arcade folks to find a web comic artist ready to take it to the next level by joining the PA team for a year and a bunch of money as a prize. They shall battle to the death with dinosaurs and go-karts! No not really. Maybe a little. But there will be tension! Heated moments of ferocious scribbling! And lots of closeup comments of all the artists about their feelings during the events. I like feelings. And scribbling. It’s been very inspiring for me thus far. I’m really glad they put something like this together. I’ve already drawn twice this week…might be a record for the last 6 months.

Just a little shout out to Abby. This does happen…I’ve yet to catch it on film. My dog thinks he’s a cat and I swear he stands next to my bed while I sleep…weighing his options. My money’s on him eating my boyfriend first. I give better cuddles.

Actually, I just experienced my first typhoon here in Nanao. It added to a rather lonely feeling weekend, even though I saw friends every day. The one nice thing aboutĀ lonelinessĀ for me is that it tends to get me more motivated with artistic endeavors. In fact, any sort of negative state of mind works well towards this end. And sorry for the lack of posts here. Please check my japan blog if you’re interested in what I’ve been up to in Japan.

My kanzashi supplies are here and I cut some fabric the other day to try with starch I had found here in Japan. Not the right starch. Next I’m gonna pick up some Spray Nori (glue) and maybe another type of starch in a different brand. And I did NOT know that chirimin fabric shrunk so much when made wet. Still excited to make some new pieces and use some wonderfully authentic fabrics.

One thing I can show for my efforts is the sketch below along with a few others on my tumblr and DA sites. I don’t like double posting so sketches go on tumblr and everything that’s at least mildly finished goes on DA. I’m attempting to get into a groove here. After so much running around and seeing all there is to see, now I’ve slowed down to the point where I feel like I’m standing still. Next, I need to find some nice white gel pens and acrylic paint so I can finish a few copic pieces and start on some new ones. I also played with painting with my mouse ( I decided not to bring my wacom because it’s old and unreliable) but it’s difficult and takes a bit longer than with a pen.

I’ve been thinking about looking for some design contests to play with as well. Maybe on DA or elsewhere. Nothing I have to pay to get into, though. Let me know if you have any suggestions.
